The Twist represents the joining of two people or groups for Eternity, telling the tale of how a bond of friendship, loyalty and love will last forever. Sometimes the two paths diverge, but they will always be linked. This symbol is often exchanged between friends and lovers to indicate a long-lasting bond. This pendant is carved from a semi-precious pounamu stone popularly known as (Jade).
All pounamu stones originate from riverbeds and boulders on the South Island, mainly the West Coast. The colors and characteristics of each stone vary according to the river of origin.
Found in colors ranging from a cloudy light green to a dark emerald with different markings, pounamu were considered so significant by the Maori that they named the South Island after this – Te-Wai-Pounamu means “the waters of jade”.
